Your best option is the choose equipment that allows you to move as naturally as possible. This way you avoid injury and will feel more comfortable moving through each exercise.

     

    Barbells are great if you are in between weights or if you are using heavy weight. They can be cheaper depending on what size you are using, and are perfect for bench press and curl routines. The down size of barbells is you have set the weight you want before each routine and can only hold a certain number of weight plates.

     

    Dumbbells are the most popular as they allow for a more natural motion and are less bulky then barbells. They are also extremely versatile and don’t require you to set the correct weight before each routine.
